Production Process Flow of Silicon Steel Sheets
I. From Iron Ore to Hot-Rolled Coils
The production of silikonlu çelik sheets starts with smelting iron ore. After blast furnace ironmaking and converter steelmaking, an appropriate proportion of silicon (normally 1%–3%) is added to form crude silikonlu çelik slabs. Hot rolling serves as the first critical working procedure:
- Heat steel slabs to approximately 1200 °C
- Reduce thickness from 200 mm to 2–3 mm via multi-pass rolling
- Control the finish rolling temperature above 800 °C
- Coil the strip into hot-rolled coils for subsequent processing
This stage is comparable to repeatedly rolling dough; uniform distribution of silicon elements directly governs the electromagnetic performance of finished products.
II. Precision Fabrication via Cold Rolling and Annealing
Core sophisticated processing takes place in the cold rolling workshop:
- Pickling: Remove scale on hot-rolled coil surfaces with hydrochloric acid
- Cold rolling: Roll steel strips down to 0.2–0.5 mm at ambient temperature
- Intermediate annealing: Heat strips to 800 °C under hydrogen atmosphere to eliminate work hardening
- Secondary cold rolling: Roll strips to target thickness with dimensional tolerance controlled within ±0.01 mm
Annealing is an extremely vital process, equivalent to a conditioning treatment for silikonlu çelik. Precise regulation of temperature and holding time enables grain recrystallization and rearrangement to form an optimized magnetic domain structure.
III. Finishing and Performance Control
Final processes define the characteristic performance of silicon steel sheets:
- Coating treatment: Apply micron-scale insulating coatings capable of withstanding temperatures up to 800 °C
- Laser scribing: Etch micro grooves on the surface with laser beams to cut core loss
- Magnetic performance inspection: Every coil undergoes testing with an Epstein frame
- Slitting and packaging: Cut coils into customized dimensions per customer requirements
These elaborate procedures are akin to surface finishing and quality inspection for silicon steel, guaranteeing stable operation inside transformers and motors.
