Core Performance: Endowing Tools with Superior Hardness
1.2080 tool steel (German standard designation, corresponding to China’s Cr12 series) is far from ordinary. Its masterfully crafted composition delivers trusted, exceptional properties:
Superior Hardness and Wear Resistance: Its high-carbon (approx. 1.45–1.70%) and high-chromium (approx. 11.0–13.0%) alloy composition, combined with specialised heat treatment (e.g., quenching + low-temperature tempering), effortlessly achieves a high hardness of HRC 58–62. This enables it to withstand the abrasive wear caused by plastic pellets and metal powders, significantly extending mould service life while substantially reducing downtime and cost losses associated with frequent mould replacement.
Excellent Quenchability: Even in moulds with larger cross-sections, it achieves uniformly high hardness and superior properties from surface to core, ensuring overall stability and reliability for large or complex structural moulds.
Superior dimensional stability: Following appropriate heat treatment, 1.2080 mould steel exhibits outstanding dimensional stability—crucial for precision moulds. This effectively guarantees accurate product dimensions, minimising post-production adjustments.
Balanced toughness: While prioritising high hardness, optimised composition and controlled heat treatment impart relatively good toughness. This enables the steel to withstand moderate impact loads, reducing cracking risks.
Choosing 1.2080 means choosing efficiency and peace of mind
In the manufacturing sector, where moulds act as ‘efficiency amplifiers’, material selection directly determines production efficiency and cost competitiveness. With its outstanding wear resistance, high hardness, excellent dimensional stability, and our commitment to consistent quality, 1.2080 mould steel stands as your reliable partner for tackling high-volume production, extended service life, and demanding operating conditions.
